Girondins de Bordeaux striker Josh Maja’s plan to move to Birmingham City has failed after he decided to stay with the French club for at least another season.
The transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the player refused to move back to England despite report that he would be flying to the UK to undergo medical on Thursday.
“Josh Maja’s move to Birmingham has just collapsed, ” Romano tweeted.
As revealed by the Italian on Wednesday, “Birmingham City are set to complete an important signing: official bid now submitted for Josh Maja, talent from Bordeaux with five-year deal agreed,” Romano tweeted on Wednesday.
“Maja will fly to England tonight (Wednesday) in order to complete medical tests first thing on Thursday morning.”
There seems to be an hitch as the former Sunderland star rejected the chance of getting linked up with the Blues to enable him stay with Bordeaux for at least one more season.
“He decided to stay at Bordeaux for one more season and sign a new two-year deal with 50 per cent wage deferral which will be paid to him in June. Deadline day
“New deal includes the option to leave for free if the team will not be promoted.”
Maja earlier frowned at a contract extension from the French club having rejected to accept a pay cut to remain in France.
The 23-year old joined Bordeaux from Sunderland in 2019 and has made 58 appearances with 13 goals and registering six assists.
