Lionel Messi has won the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Award for the World’s Best Playmaker for 2022, his fifth time receiving the honor.
The Argentina captain, who also won the award in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019, beat out Luka Modric and Kevin De Bruyne for the top spot.
This is Messi’s third IFFHS award for 2022, as he also won the World’s Best Player and World’s Best International Goal Scorer awards.
With this latest honor, Messi has now won a total of 13 IFFHS annual awards in his career, the most of any player. Cristiano Ronaldo is in second place with eight awards.
