On Wednesday evening, Manchester United’s hopes of moving up to second place in the Premier League were dashed as Crystal Palace earned a 1-1 draw in a dramatic match at Selhurst Park.
United had been on track for their tenth consecutive victory in all competitions, a feat not achieved since 2009, thanks to a goal from Bruno Fernandes just before halftime.
However, in the 91st minute, Michael Olise scored a stunning left-footed free kick to secure the draw for Palace.
The week leading up to the match had been filled with talk of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership bid for Manchester United, as the club seeks to regain its former glory.
However, on the pitch, United had been in good form following their weekend victory over Manchester City.
United gave a debut to on-loan striker Wout Weghorst, but it was Fernandes who gave them the lead in an even first half.
Despite controlling much of the second half, United couldn’t hold on as Olise’s moment of magic secured the draw for Palace.
The result leaves United in third place with 39 points, level with Manchester City who have a better goal difference.
Meanwhile, Arsenal currently sit at the top of the league with 47 points having played one game less.
