Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has made history by securing second place at the Miss Universe competition, proudly representing both Nigeria and South Africa. Adetshina, who was also named Miss Africa and Oceania, expressed her pride, stating, “I’m so proud of myself, and I just made history.”
Despite challenges, including xenophobic abuse and a national identity controversy in South Africa, Adetshina’s determination led her to win the Miss Nigeria crown, which allowed her to compete in Mexico City. She is now the highest-placed Black African woman in Miss Universe since South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi won in 2019.
Adetshina’s resilience through adversity, including online trolling and nationality debates, has made her a beacon of strength and inspiration for many across the globe.
