On Thursday, May 5, 2022, Mohamed Salah received the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year award.
The 29-year-old was voted FWA Player of the Year over Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and West Ham defender Declan Rice.
At the award ceremony, Salah was beaming as he accepted the honor.
Salah thanked those who voted for him and discussed what he expects for the remainder of the season after receiving the award.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me,” he said.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank everyone who supported me. Journalists are a big part of the football family, and I hope we can win more games this season.”
When asked if he considers himself a Liverpool legend, Salah replied, “I don’t know, I don’t reallyștiitștiit. I just tried to enjoy my football, my time with the club, and to help the team win trophies; that was the most important thing, so no, I don’t.
Salah stated on Twitter that the two teams have a score to settle after Real Madrid qualified for the Champions League final.
When asked to clarify, Salah referred to the 2018 championship match between the two clubs.
He exclaimed, “Well, I’m so thrilled. I’m sure both the team and our team are ecstatic about it. I said before the game that I wanted to play Madrid in the final, and we got them. I’m sure it will be a tough game because Madrid has beaten several good teams, so we just need to focus on the game.
Salah, when asked about Liverpool’s title challenge against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, stated that his team needed to concentrate on the upcoming match against Tottenham.
Salah stated, “As I’ve said, we must first concentrate on the Premier League. We still have four games remaining, and both Manchester City and Liverpool have four games remaining. We hope they drop points, and we must concentrate on Tottenham.”
Liverpool has already won the EFL Cup and is in contention for the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.
Salah discussed the feasibility of the quadruple dream. He stated, “We’ll see if City draws points or not, as they have a great team and a great coach. I’m sure they want to keep winning.”
“First, we must complete our Premier League schedule, and then we’ll assess the situation. We have four games remaining, and City has four games remaining in which they can lose points. We must only concentrate on the Spurs game and proceed from there.
“After five years together, we know what it takes to win. In our previous game, we were down 2-0 on the road, but we were able to come back. This is crucial for our mentality in the upcoming games. We believe we are capable of winning any trophy.”
