Italian champions Napoli have extended Victor Osimhen’s contract for another two years, paying him N6.5 billion ($6.5 million plus $1 million in bonuses) in salary.
Osimhen, who has two years left on his contract with Napoli, requested a wage increase of €7 million yearly in order to extend his current contract with the Italian champions, who are eager to lock him down to a new term in the face of interest from some of Europe’s top teams.
A release clause of £170 million for the Nigerian striker is reportedly part of the new proposed agreement.
Skysports revealed on Monday that “Napoli is in advanced talks to extend his (Osimhen) contract until 2027 with an increase in salary to €6.5m plus €1m as bonuses.”
In 32 games, the 24-year-old scored 26 goals to lead the Partenopei to their first championship in 33 years.
The famous Capocannoniere trophy, given to the best scorer in Serie A, was also won by him, making him the first African to do so.
Osimhen’s representative, Roberto Calenda, refuted rumours that his client wouldn’t agree to a new deal, though.
On Monday, Calenda used Twitter to denounce an article from the Il Mattino newspaper in Naples as being false.
He wrote, “I read in Il Mattino that ‘Calenda has no intention of renewing in the summer and wants to explore all avenues in the market first. Fake news.”
Osimhen will, however, likely return to preseason practise on Wednesday.
