As Africa intensifies efforts to bolster intra-Africa trade, leaders from Nigeria and Angola converged at the Angola-Nigeria Diplomatic-Business Investment meeting in Lagos, Southern Nigeria, to address critical trade barriers hindering the progress of economic relations between the two nations.
Mrs. Fifi Ejindu, President of the Angola-Nigeria Business Council, took center stage at the meeting, emphasizing the urgency of dismantling trade barriers and simplifying visa processes. She stressed that such measures are vital for establishing smoother trade relations, fostering active economic partnerships, and ensuring mutual progress between Angola and Nigeria.
Former Minister of Finance for Angola, Dr. Armando Manuel, expressed optimism regarding the recent diplomatic-business investment meeting. Citing productive discussions, he sees potential for tangible outcomes in the near future. Dr. Manuel urged Nigerian investors to explore opportunities in key sectors of Angola’s economy, particularly in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and addressing concerns related to food security.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a special guest of honor, urged for robust economic ties between Nigeria and Angola. He highlighted the necessity of increasing trade volumes within Africa while addressing infrastructural deficits, particularly in the transportation sector. Obasanjo stressed the importance of collaboration to overcome challenges and achieve seamless trade between the two nations.
Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, the Secretary of the National Action Committee of AFCFTA, Nigeria, underscored the lack of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between Nigeria and Angola. He highlighted the untapped potential for economic engagement between the two largest oil exporters in Africa. Awolowo emphasized the significance of addressing infrastructural deficits, encouraging collaboration across various sectors, and boosting trade relations for mutual economic growth.
The meeting, organized in collaboration with the Angola-Nigeria Business Council, had a central objective of promoting commercial cooperation and establishing sustainable foundations for strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Angola.
