Nigeria and Ethiopia have made plans for a Joint Ministerial Commission meeting to be held in Addis Ababa next month. At this meeting, they will talk about their bilateral relationships and share their views on several international issues that are important to both countries.

This came after President Muhammadu Buhari met with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, yesterday. Abiy Ahmed was there for a state visit and a presidential lunch, which the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, and the First Lady of Ethiopia, Zinash Tayachew, also attended.

During the meeting, the leaders of both countries agreed to take concrete steps to improve their relationship in key areas, such as the economy, trade, science and technology, and solid minerals.

Victor Adeleke, who is Nigeria’s ambassador to Ethiopia, talked to reporters about the purpose of the visit and how things are getting better between the two countries.

He said: “

The Ethiopian Prime Minister has always seen Nigeria as a strong country that helps keep democracy in Africa stable.

“In the spirit of African brotherhood and looking for African solutions to African problems, President Buhari and the Prime Minister talk from time to time, and this visit is the cherry on top.

“President Buhari has been to Addis Ababa a few times, so the Prime Minister thought it would be a good idea to visit Nigeria and talk with President Buhari on the way to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for the humanitarian conference and the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government.

“Relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia are very friendly.” We are working together, and the Joint Ministerial Commission will meet soon to talk about different areas of our relationship that will help both countries.

Nigerian officials are going to Addis Ababa in June to talk about politics, the economy, science and technology, mines, and industry, among other things. We have been involved, and we will keep being involved.”
