The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has conducted a successful raid on criminal hideouts along the Dei-Dei–Zuba axis, resulting in the arrest of 307 suspects. This development was revealed by the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, during a briefing held on Monday in Abuja.
CP Igweh disclosed that the operation, led by a tactical team of the command, took place on Sunday, resulting in the apprehension of 293 males and 14 females. The team comprised personnel from the newly-inaugurated “Operation Velvet,” which was specifically initiated to target marked black spots in the territory.

The raid focused on the area around “Gidan Dambe” in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, known as a meeting point for criminals, including kidnappers from neighboring states such as Niger and Kaduna. During the operation, law enforcement recovered significant items, including an English Pistol with 15 rounds of live ammunition from one of the suspects, who claimed to be a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Additionally, the police confiscated hard drugs, locally made pistols, motorcycles, suspected illicit substances like Indian hemp, various types of handsets, and other dangerous weapons from the apprehended suspects. Furthermore, valuables believed to have been stolen from innocent residents were also recovered during the operation.
CP Igweh emphasized that upon completion of screening and investigation, the suspects would be charged in court. He issued a stern warning to those operating illegally within “Gidan Dambe” and other areas in the FCT, urging them to cease harboring criminals or face the full force of the law.
