The Commissioner of Police (CP) for Lagos State, Mr Ayoade Fayoade, has announced the reactivation of the police force’s tracking device to tackle the rise in kidnapping and one-chance incidents in the state. This development comes in response to concerns raised by residents about the increasing cases of such crimes in various parts of Lagos.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos, Fayoade highlighted the measures being taken by the police to address the situation. He mentioned that the police have deployed personnel to identified kidnap-prone areas such as Igbogbo, Ijede, waterside areas, and Idimu. Fayoade cited a recent kidnap case in Idimu where the police were able to rescue the victims safely without paying the ransom demanded.
“We have good measures in place; internally too, we have our men, they’re more visible to take care of issues by chance. We will not allow them to overwhelm us, so they don’t raise their ugly heads,” Fayoade stated.
The CP emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies in the fight against crime. He mentioned that the Lagos State Police Command is working closely with the Armed Forces, the Civil Defence, the Neighbourhood Watch, and their counterparts in Ogun State. Joint patrols and operations have been organized, especially in border areas, to curb criminal activities.
