The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) reported on Sunday that April ticket sales generated N582 million.
Patrick Lee, national president of CEAN, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“Duh of April, cinemas in Nigeria sold a total of N582,011,276 in tickets.
“There is a 50 percent increase in sales compared to April 2021, when sales were N388,420,832.00.On
“On April, 22 Nollywood films accounted for 43% of ticket sales, with King of Thieves accounting for 23%, while 19 Hollywood films accounted for approximately 54%, with two films grossing over N50 million.
“Morbius and Sonic Hedgehog2, with the latter becoming the biggest animated film of the year so far,” he said.
The top five highest-grossing of April were revealed to be The King of Thieves, Morbius, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and the Blood Covenant.
“King of Thieves opened with the highest ticket sales for a Nollywood film in 2022 so far. It also became the highest-grossing song indigenous-themed film and the tenth Nollywood film to surpass the N200 million mark,” Lee said.
Comparing March to April, he reported that ticket sales increased by approximately 68%, with April having the highest box office total since January.
Lee stated that the following films will be available for viewing in May: Law of the Heart, Doctor Stranger in the Multi-Universes of Madness, Firestarter, The Perfect Arrangement, Ilu America, Top Gun: Maverick, Bob’s Burger, and The Wildflower.
