In the Spanish Terceira division, a footballer from Nigeria named Ado Hadi with CD Madridejos passed away on Sunday while playing at home for his team against SP Cabanillas.
According to a statement from the Castilla-La Mancha Football Federation, Hadi collapsed “for no apparent reasons” in the 39th minute of the game.
He was quickly attended to by the medical staff on duty at the Municipal Toledo ground, but their attempts to revive him were unsuccessful because he was eventually declared dead minutes later.
“The Castilla-La Mancha Football Federation and Castilian-La Mancha football, with its President Pablo Burillo at the helm, are totally dismayed at such an event. For this reason, the federative body remains at the disposal of CD Madridejos for everything it needs in these difficult times.”
The 21-year-old Hadi who last played in Nigeria with Jigawa Golden Stars, was one of the four Nigerian players playing for CD Madridejos.
Castile-La Mancha, Spain’s Madridejos, is home to the football team Club Deportivo Madridejos. The 1968-founded team competes in Tercera División Group 18, while Nuevo Estadio, a 2,000-seat stadium, serves as the club’s home field.
