The House of Representatives has summoned President Bola Tinubu, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, to explain the steps being taken to resolve the current fuel scarcity crisis and prevent its recurrence in the future.
This decision was reached following a motion of urgent importance, moved by Hon. Umar Shehu Ajilo, which also invited other key stakeholders in the petroleum industry to address the issue.
The House expressed deep concern over the prolonged fuel scarcity and the consequent surge in the retail prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the country.
This situation has exacerbated the hardships faced by Nigerian citizens, especially considering the economic challenges caused by subsidy removal and escalating inflation.
Despite the substantial resources available to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NNPC), the House noted with dismay that the corporation has failed to resolve the persistent fuel scarcity problem.
The House emphasized the urgent need for concrete and lasting measures to be implemented to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
The current retail price of petrol has soared to as high as N1200 per litre in some states, making life increasingly difficult for the average Nigerian. The House of Representatives has vowed to tackle this issue head-on and ensure that sustainable solutions are put in place for the benefit of all Nigerians.
