The Lagos State Government has launched a state-of-the-art Remote Control System for Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Health District I to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved areas. The system allows real-time monitoring of PHCs and facilitates remote consultations between patients and specialists.

Commissioned by Lagos First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the initiative aims to improve access to quality healthcare for residents in hard-to-reach areas. Represented by Mrs. Omolola Sanyaolu, the First Lady stated, “This is not just a technological advancement; it is a bold declaration of our commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.”

She praised the dedication of Dr. Olufunmilayo Bankole, Permanent Secretary of Lagos Health District I, and her team for bringing the project to fruition. Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the system would improve early diagnosis, facilitate efficient referrals, and reduce the burden on secondary healthcare facilities.

“This initiative reflects our resolve to transform healthcare in Lagos and reduce mortality rates,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu added, urging other districts to adopt similar models.

Dr. Bankole revealed that over 5,000 individuals have been screened for non-communicable diseases, with 30% requiring follow-up care. She also noted the district’s success in immunizing 512 children through a recent campaign.

Princess Olabisi Adebajo, Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, lauded the initiative, saying, “This system will not only enhance the patient experience but also significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates in our community.”
