The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has unveiled a major initiative to launch a birth registration campaign aimed at ensuring that every child in Nigeria can access key services like education, healthcare, and social support.

Speaking on the initiative, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of NOA, represented by David Akoji, Director of Special Duties and States Operations, stated, “In collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) and UNICEF, NOA is embarking on a social mobilisation campaign to register children across the nation. This will guarantee that all children aged 0-5 years are documented and receive a National Identification Number (NIN) at no cost.”

He emphasized, “Birth registration is more than just a legal requirement; it is a vital right of every child. It signifies the child’s formal recognition by the state and is a cornerstone for accessing services critical to their growth and well-being.”

Running from August to November 2024, this campaign calls on parents and guardians to register their young children at nearby NPC centers. “By doing this, we can collectively ensure that every Nigerian child has a stronger start in life,” Akoji urged.
