The online ticketing system for the Abuja-Kaduna rail route has been re-opened by the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Passengers reportedly made reservations in advance of the resumption date which is today, Monday 5th December, 2022, while company employees were reportedly present at the station alongside some engineers who were working on the escalator.

“The government has opened the portal and some people have bought tickets already. I see a few seats remaining, but even some coaches have been taken.”

The extension of the railway services was announced by Mu’azu Sambo, the minister of transportation, a week before to this.

Recall that on March 28, 2022, terrorists attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train, causing 168 people to be abducted and eight others to be killed.

Since then, the victims have been freed one by one, with the most recent 23 victims being set free in October.

The first train will leave Rigasa station in Kaduna for Abuja at 8:00 am, while the first train from Abuja will leave Idu station for Kaduna at 9:45 am, according to a statement from NRC that we were able to receive.

Every passenger would need to provide their National Identification Number and a valid boarding ticket as part of the security measures put in place, with the purchase of tickets by proxy being restricted to kids and a fixed number of adult passengers.

“Online and mobile app ticketing will be available from 8:00am today, December 4, 2022, while the ticket offices at the train stations will open from 6:30am tomorrow, “ states the statement.
