Oduduru Suspended for Doping, Risks Six-Year Ban

Due to two anti-doping offences, Nigeria’s 200-meter national champion Divine Oduduru has been permanently barred from competing by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

Oduduru is now facing a six-year suspension after being accused of “the possession and/or use or attempted use of various forbidden substances.”

The AIU, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, is the world athletics governing body’s disciplinary branch.

Following the 11-year suspension of former national team captain Blessing Okagbare, this development is the most recent in Nigeria’s string of disappointing performances in the sport of track and field.

While further information is still being uncovered, the AIU has established a connection between Oduduru and Okagbare’s alleged crime, which is believed to have taken place right before the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Oduduru has personal best times of 9.86 seconds for the 100 meters and 19.73 seconds for the 200 meters, according to NAN.

Oduduru was disqualified while competing in Tokyo’s 100-meter heats and 200-meter semifinals.
