Nigerian hurdler and track star, Tobi Amusan, has established a fresh African women’s indoor record in the 60 metres, achieving a remarkable time of 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 7.77 seconds, which was set in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January. What stands out is that Amusan had already surpassed the African record on January 27 during her initial race of the new athletic season, thereby surpassing the record set by her compatriot Gloria Alozie some twenty-five years ago.
It is worth noting that, despite her outstanding performance, Amusan secured the second position in Boston. The victory went to America’s Tia Jones, who finished first with a time of 7.72 seconds, followed closely by Devynne Chalton of the Bahamas, clocking in at 7.76 seconds.
Amusan’s outstanding performance not only solidifies her as an elite athlete but also shines a bright global spotlight on Nigeria in global athletics.
