The Super Falcons’ Asisat Oshoala and Christy Ucheibe will square off in the 2022–23 UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.
The group stage draw was made on Monday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. Group D includes Bayern Munich, Rosengrd, Oshoala’s Barcelona Femeni, and Ucheibe’s Benfica team.
Oshoala has been a major player for Barcelona Femeni over the years and was an important member of the squad that won the 2021 championship.
As Barcelona Femeni won the Spanish championship and the Copa De La Reina last season, Oshoala concluded the season as the league’s equal top scorer with 20 goals.
On September 25, Oshoala scored her first goal of the year as Barcelona Femeni destroyed Villarreal 4-1 at the Ciudad Deportiva Villarreal CF Vila-real.
After losing to Lyon in the 2022 championship game, Oshoala, who scored in that game’s final, will be playing for Barcelona Femeni in the hopes of winning it back.
In Benfica’s 2-1 victory over Rangers at home on September 28, Uchiebe, who has participated in two games in the Women’s Champions League’s second round, came on as a substitute in the second half.
To advance her team to the competition’s knockout round, the 21-year-old Falcons star will be looking to succeed.
