Victor Osimhen, a striker for the Super Eagles, on Sunday beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s four-year record to become the Serie A’s jump king with a leap of 2.58 meters while Napoli was impressively defeating Spezia 3-0.
Osimhen bagged this remarkable accomplishment when he scored his first goal against the Little Eagles at the Stadio Alberto Picco (Napoli’s second of the day).
Although the Nigerian international has scored several outstanding headers over his career, the goal against Spezia was genuinely exceptional and may be a candidate for the best headed goal in football history.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s penalty kick gave Luciano Spalletti’s team the lead after the first half ended scoreless, and Osimhen’s incredible effort in the 68th minute added a second.
Osimhen made an incredible 71-centimeter leap, rising to a height of 8.47 ft (2.58 m) — higher than the crossbar (8 ft) — before beating Spezia goalie Bartomej Drgowski.
The 24-year-old reportedly jumped to a height of 2.58 meters, which is characteristic of great NBA talents, according to Corriere dello Sport (via Tutto Napoli).
By doing so, Osimhen broke the previous record for the Italian Serie A, which was 2.56 meters, established by Ronaldo for Juventus versus Sampdoria in 2019.
It is also a new high point for Osimhen, whose prior mark was 2.52m, set against Torino at the Diego Maradona Stadium last season.
But Bevis Mugabi of Uganda, a defender, still holds the world record, which he reached in the Scottish Championship in January 2021 with a height of 2.62m.
With 16 goals in Serie A so far this season, Osimhen has already scored more goals than any other time in his career in a single season.
