Twenty days after suffering a muscle injury in Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League Group A debut, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has returned to training.
The Partenopei’s past three victories over Spezia, Glasgow Rangers, and AC Milan were played without the Nigerian.
The Eagles’ friendlies against Algeria were also missed by him.
As stated by Calcio on Tuesday: “Training resumed yesterday (Monday) with Osimhen and Politano, who are continuing in their respective recovery tables.
“It is precisely the aspect of injuries that is the least worrying at the moment because so far the prevention work carried out by the technical staff and by the medical staff head doctor, Raffaele Canonico, worked well.
“Osimhen was a victim of a muscle problem, however typical of an attacker with his characteristics.”
According to the Italian media, despite his comeback, Napoli won’t put the former Lille striker in the lineup right away.
“Osimhen is about to return, there are still a few days left, something more than a week, to see him on the pitch to train with his teammates.
“To see him again in the stadiums, in Italy and Europe, we will have to wait a little more, probably at least until October 9, the date of the match against Cremonese, round-trip matches with Ajax in the Champions League,” Tuttonapoli reports.
Against Hellas Verona and Monza this season, the 23-year-old has scored twice and assisted once for Napoli, but, according to an Italian statistics website called Kickest.it, he might have scored more.
The striker for the Eagles has missed seven significant opportunities in five league games this season, which is two more than Tammy Abraham and three more than Paulo Dybala, who are now sitting in second and third place, respectively.
