Today’s Winners League group stage encounter between Napoli and Eredivisie champions Ajax is expected to mark the comeback of striker Victor Osimhen.
The 23-year-old has not played since Partenopei’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool on September 9 after suffering an injury.
The setback has caused the Nigerian international to miss Napoli’s last six games.
Osimhen, however, participated in a complete training session with his teammates on Monday and is expected to be chosen to the squad for the game against Ajax.
According to the club’s official website: “Osimhen did the whole session as a group. He has had therapies and tomorrow (Tuesday) he will carry out diagnostic tests.”
For Napoli under Luciano Spalletti, the striker has two goals in five appearances across all competitions.
As the Nigerian is anticipated to start from the bench, his teammates’ performances while he was away may have put some pressure on him to perform well when he returned.
“Sources close to the player assure us: Osimhen is fine and is already in 100 per cent form, and tomorrow (today) he will be on the bench for the fourth round of the Champions League.
“He knows well that he will have to work hard, his attacking colleagues are doing very well, but Victor remains a very important solution for Luciano Spalletti,” read the statement from CalcioNapoli.
Giacomo Raspadori will command the line at the start of the game, according to Radio Marte, with Osimhen likely to take over from the bench.
In preparation for Napoli’s upcoming games against Bologna and Roma, Spaletti intends to use this game to give Osimhen valuable playing time.
