Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen withdrew from training on Tuesday due to a right ankle injury.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Osimhen departed the Napoli training session during their practise match after colliding with new signing Natan de Souza and receiving a hard hit to his right ankle.
He staggered off the pitch, clearly in pain, and immediately applied an ice pack to his ankle. Initial examinations indicate that he has an ankle sprain, which should not keep him out of action for long.
The team is hoping he will be ready for their Serie A season opener against Frosinone on August 19.
Previously, the Super Eagles attacker missed Napoli’s last preseason game against Augsburg on Sunday due to a muscle strain from which he has just recently recovered. He had also been absent from a pre-season encounter against Girona.
Until Tuesday, the Nigerian had not completely trained with the team.
Osimhen has been linked with a high-profile move away from Napoli this summer, but despite significant bids from Saudi Arabia, he is set to sign a new contract.
Last season, the 24-year-old Nigerian forward was the star of the show for the Partenopei, scoring 26 goals in 32 league games as the squad won its first Scudetto in 33 years.
