In a historic landslide, Ousmane Sonko’s Pastef party secured 130 out of 165 parliamentary seats in Senegal’s November 17 legislative elections, achieving a commanding 78% majority. This decisive victory, the largest since 1988, saw Pastef triumph in 40 out of 46 departments and dominate seven of eight overseas constituencies.
With voter turnout approaching 50%, the win reflects strong public support. Pastef representatives hailed the result as a mandate for significant structural reforms.
Opposition parties conceded defeat without contest. Former President Macky Sall’s coalition suffered a sharp decline, dropping from 83 to just 16 seats. Former Prime Minister Amadou Ba’s alliance secured seven seats, while Dakar Mayor Barthélémy Dias’ group won three.
Final results are expected within five days, with no legal challenges reported so far.
