A 3-0 loss to Al Akhdar in the rematch of their play-off match on Wednesday in Libya ended Plateau United’s hopes of competing in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Due to three goals in the second half, the Libyans qualified for the group stage via the away-goal rule.
Plateau United had defeated Abuja 4-1 in the first leg last week.
In the first half, the Peace Boys kept their opponents to a scoreless draw, but in the 58th minute, the Libyans started to get past their defense.
In the 86th minute, Al Akhdar scored again, and in stoppage time, a third goal was deflected past Plateau goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso, giving the hosts a 3-0 victory.
Plateau United’s continental calamity was made worse by the outcome because they were initially dropped into the lower level continental tournament after being eliminated from the CAF Champions League.
