Music legend Celine Dion defied expectations by making a surprise appearance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The 55-year-old singer, who has been battling the rare neurological disorder stiff person syndrome (SPS), presented the final award of the ceremony: Album of the Year.
Dion received a standing ovation from the star-studded audience as she took the stage. “Thank you all, I love you right back,” she said, her voice filled with emotion. “When I say that I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.”
This marked a rare public appearance for Dion, who has been largely out of the spotlight since revealing her SPS diagnosis in 2022. The condition causes muscle stiffness and spasms, making it difficult for her to perform. However, she chose the Grammys platform to remind everyone of the power of music.
“Those who have been blessed enough to be here tonight,” she said, “must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives.”
Dion then presented the Album of the Year award to Taylor Swift before exiting the stage to another round of applause. Her appearance was a powerful testament to her resilience and the enduring love she has for music.
