In a solemn broadcast, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation regarding the ongoing protests and unrest in several Nigerian states. He expressed deep sorrow over the violence and loss of lives, particularly in Borno, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna.

“Notably among the protesters were young Nigerians who desired a better and more progressive country where their dreams, hopes, and personal aspirations would be fulfilled,” Tinubu acknowledged. He lamented the destruction of public facilities and the looting of businesses, stressing that such actions hinder national progress.

The President called for an immediate halt to the protests and urged organizers to opt for dialogue. “Our government will not stand idly by and allow a few with a clear political agenda to tear this nation apart,” he warned, emphasizing the need for unity across all divides.

Highlighting the economic reforms undertaken by his administration, Tinubu reiterated the necessity of removing fuel subsidies and abolishing multiple foreign exchange systems. “These decisions I made were necessary if we must reverse the decades of economic mismanagement that didn’t serve us well,” he stated.

Tinubu detailed the government’s achievements over the past 14 months, including significant revenue growth, reduction of debt service costs, and increased investments in infrastructure. He noted, “Our government has made significant strides in rebuilding the foundation of our economy to carry us into a future of plenty and abundance.”

Addressing the youth, Tinubu emphasized the importance of new initiatives such as the student loan scheme, the Consumer Credit Corporation, and the Digital and Creative Enterprises program. He condemned the recent vandalism of a digital center in Kano, calling it “a shame.”

President Tinubu urged all Nigerians to work together for a brighter future, stating, “Let us choose hope over fear, unity over division, and progress over stagnation. The economy is recovering; please, don’t shut out its oxygen.” He concluded with a call for continued peace and security, thanking the nation for their attention and prayers.

In his closing remarks, Tinubu reinforced his commitment to good governance, promising, “We are working hard for you, and the results will soon be visible and concrete for everyone to see, feel, and enjoy.”
