President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Sen. Monday Okpebhole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in Saturday’s Edo governorship election. Okpebhole was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

In a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu commended APC national leaders, Edo leaders, and party governors for their efforts in securing the win. He described the victory as a testament to the people’s support for “progressive ideals, economic reengineering, and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.”

Tinubu urged Okpebhole to avoid gloating and to view the win as a call to service. “I encourage you to reach out to your political rivals and unite the people of Edo to ensure development,” the President said.

Tinubu also praised other candidates for contributing to Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that peaceful contests like Saturday’s election reflect the nation’s stability. “I urge all those aggrieved by the election outcome to seek redress through legal channels,” he added.

Furthermore, Tinubu commended INEC and security agencies for organizing a successful election, stating, “INEC has once again demonstrated its commitment to organizing free and fair elections in our country.”
