The Terranga Lions of Senegal have beaten Ecuador 2-1 and to the second-round spot of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The win made Senegal the first African country to make the second-round list of the tournament.
With Sarr’s first-half goal from the penalty spot, Senegal went ahead, only for them to concede 16 minutes after the restart, courtesy of a goal from Ecuador’s midfielder, Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea’s defender, Koulibaly however delivered a perfect response almost immediately, three minutes later, with a brilliant strike from close range.
The Alliou Cisse’s team came back from a 2-nil opening match loss to the Netherlands, to win their last two games, 3-1 against the host nation, Qatar, and now 2-1 against Ecuador. They finish the group six points behind the leaders Netherlands who finished the group with 7 points having beaten Qatar 2-0.
Recall that the African Champions had lost their star player and main striker, Sadio Mane to an injury just right before the start of the tournament. They however proved the worth and strength of the team with their first round of 16 qualifications since 2002.
Meanwhile, Qatar became the first host nation to lose all of its three group-stage matches in the history of the FIFA World Cup. They lost 2-o against Ecuador, 3-1 against Senegal, and 2-nil against the Deutch.
