Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history as his hit track “Calm Down Remix” with American pop star Selena Gomez becomes the first Afrobeats song to reach 1 billion views on YouTube.

A review on Saturday by DAILY POST confirmed the impressive milestone, achieved just two years after the music video was uploaded on Gomez’s YouTube channel. The song also holds the record as the fastest African track to amass 1 billion views on the platform.

The original version of “Calm Down” has also proven successful, garnering over 619 million views. Beyond YouTube, the remix has marked a major achievement on Spotify as well, where it became the first African song to surpass 1 billion streams last August and now boasts over 1.5 billion streams.

Rema’s groundbreaking success with “Calm Down Remix” underscores the global rise of Afrobeats, solidifying his influence in the genre and marking a new chapter for African artists on the international music scene.
