The Shell Petroleum Company of Nigeria Limited has denounced the claim that states it is planning to pull out of the country.
The Shell Country Head and Director of Corporate Relations, Mr. Igo Wike revealed this in Owerri, Imo State capital, while answering questions that stemmed from reporters.
While addressing participants at the 2022 Row Media Engagement for Journalists from Abia and Imo States, Wike enjoined the media, through its reportage, to assist the company in debunking some of the problems being experienced from host communities in Niger Delta.
“We implore journalists to help the SPDC to position the company on the right perspective by their reports,” He said.
He also stated that some of the problems SPDC encounter in their host communities are vandalisation of oil pipelines, attack on workers, and kidnapping of workers for ransom, among others.
He also mentioned that the recession that hit the world affected the SPDC so much that it was considering reducing its workforce from over 4,000 to 2,000 or fewer.
Wike further revealed the firm was operating in a difficult environment in Nigeria compared to other countries where it also had offices or investments.
