Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has ended revenue collection by proxy in the state. In a bid to enforce the implementation of a new tax and levy to all markets, parks and roads from July 1, 2022.

All taxes and levies paid in the state would henceforth receive digital identification while the commercial vehicle operators who make daily payments will no longer be charged to pay again in any public park.

Five percent of the revenue generated by any union will now be given to them to manage the concerned business places.

Soludo’s new decision was announced at a one day town hall meeting he had with transport and market union executive members in Anambra State where he also buttressed that public parks owned by the government will be directly managed by government only.

He further warned the people who pose as government revenue collectors in any part of the state to put a stop to it or face the consequence. He chipped in that although his administration tried to curb leakages of government revenue, they sadly ended up in some private pockets.

Despite all this, the governor described Anambra as an alpha state, assured that the state would be peaceful, liveable and prosperous and be a model in all ramifications as one of the developed states in the country.

He further explained that the state’s new move on tax is very crucial considering the era of revenue generation and the sale of crude oil was gradually fading away.

The governor noted that no remittance had been made from the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, into the Federation Account as money obtained from the sale of crude oil since February this year.

He urged the people who would be affected by the new system to fix their gaze on the essence of the system, which is for the greater good of the state. He also promised to provide an alternative for them in good time.
