South Africa’s Matheba Joins IK Osakioduwa To Host 2022 AMVCAs

Ahead of the eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCAs, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2022, in Lagos, the organizers have announced IK Osakioduwa, a Nigerian media personality, and Bonang Matheba, South Africa’s media darling, as co-hosts.

Matheba will make her AMVCAs hosting debut. She is a multi-award-winning radio host, television presenter, and style icon who is well-known for her flamboyant presentation style and signature voice on South African radio and television.

She has hosseveralr of award shows and high-profile events, including the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards, the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, the 2016 BET Awards, and Miss South Africa 2019.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, said in a statement announcing the awards’ hosts: “We are thrilled to have Bonang join IK as co-host for the eighth edition of the AMVCAs. They are both extremely talented and have garnered continental acclaim as hosts of some of Africa’s most prestigious events. Together, they’ll keep the crowd entertained on Africa’s biggest night for film and television stars”.

Bonang expressed her excitement about her AMVCA debut, stating, “it’s been a long time coming.” Queen B revealed what viewers can expect from the show, stating that she will bring world-class, high-quality television hosting to the show.

“It’s always an honor to host live productions, and I believe that following COVID, we haven’t had the opportunity to host these large-scale productions with live studio audiences.” Thus, it’s wonderful to have all of that restored. Additionally, it is an honor. Each stage I get to wink on is an honor. I’ve always desired to collaborate with IK. I am a huge fan. As a result, I’m looking forward to that as well,” she stated.

IK Osakioduwa began his career as a radio on-air personality in 2001 and quickly gained popularity for his entertaining presentation style.

“I feel honored to be hosting the AMVCAs again,” IK said upon his return to the glitzy AMVCA stage. I’m also ecstatic about the decision to create a separate category to recognize social media content creators. Believe me when I say that this year will undoubtedly be another incredible year for the African film industry.”
