Following Southampton’s dismissal of manager Nathan Jones on Sunday morning, Super Eagles players Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo will train under a new manager.
Jones was only in charge of the Saints for three months, but they have already suffered the consequences of a bad season as they are currently last in the Premier League standings with 15 points from 22 games and a goal differential of -22.
On Saturday night, Southampton suffered a 2-1 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Informing the public of their choice to fire Jones, Southampton posted a statement on their official website early on Sunday.
“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones.
“First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.
“First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.”
With Saturday’s loss marking their ninth defeat in those games, Southampton has only won one of their last 11 Premier League contests.
Final day of signing Onuachu made his complete Premier League debut in Saturday’s loss, but Che Adam’s replaced him in the 74th minute. Five minutes later, Aribo came off the bench to replace Carlos Alvarez.
