On April 22, 2023, Sheik Abdulkadiri College in Ilorin will host the opening game of the Never Stop Dreaming Cup 2023, a 26-team football competition.

According to Ameen Akota, the chairman of the organising committee, the football competition, sponsored by Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, aims to develop new Kwara players in the mould of the former Liverpool marksman.

The Super Eagles striker’s academy, Unicorn FA, will face Sunshine FC at the Sheik Abdulkadiri College pitch starting at 4pm to kick off the tournament, according to Akota, who spoke to reporters on Friday in Ilorin.

He claimed that Awoniyi was using the football competition to give back to the community that had helped shape him, which is why he was pooling money to support the identification of future potential.

The competition final will take place on June 10 at one of the pitches of Kwara Football Academy, according to the chairman of the organising committee, and is expected to draw the “who’s who” of the football world.

Akota revealed that all of the competing teams had been given their jerseys for free thanks to the sponsor (Taiwo Awoniyi).
