There are currently discussions regarding adding an Afrobeats category to the Grammys, according to the Recording Academy. The CEO of the Recording Academy, Harvey Manson Jr., verified this to Ghanaian media.
A proposal must be made in order for the academy to choose to add an Afrobeats category. To ensure appropriate portrayal of the different shades and styles the Afrobeats sound possesses, work is currently being done on this.
Harvey Manson revealed that prominent figures in the Afrobeats community participated in a listening session hosted by the Recording Academy.
