Threat to NLNG’s $10 Billion Train-7 Project Due to Daewoo Stoppage

Due to the ongoing labor dispute between National Association of Plant Operators members and the management of Daewoo E&C Nigeria Limited, the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Train-7 Project may take longer than expected to complete.

South Korean company Daewoo is experiencing labour unrest as its employees protest the management’s decision to forbid them from organizing a union under NAPO.

They claimed that check-off fees were being unlawfully deducted from their pay and that 24 of their coworkers had been fired.

The Daewoo Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited management has shut down the Train 7 project site as a result of the conflict and has instructed all employees to leave all work areas under its control.

In a memo written by its project manager, Mr. Sung Lee, Daewoo stated that due to an event last Friday that caused significant damage to the company’s facilities, it could no longer ensure the safety of its employees and equipment.
