The Ministry of Lands has launched a nationwide online land information search portal aimed at simplifying access to land services and reducing land disputes. The e-land services portal was officially launched on October 2 by State Minister for Lands Sam Mayanja at the Wakiso Ministerial Zonal office.
“Registered users shall have fast access to accurate information on the ownership, encumbrances, and location of land,” said Mr. Mayanja, emphasizing the platform’s role in reducing the need to interact with ministry officials, which he noted will “eliminate the corruption tendencies that have been reported widely.”
The new system will allow users to authenticate property ownership for a fee of Shs10,000 using smartphones or web browsers. “The web users shall be required to register in a very simple and automatic way,” Mr. Mayanja explained.
Highlighting the broader impact of the initiative, he added, “We will be able to respond to land information requests instantly and also achieve transparency and good land governance.”
Officials believe the system will be a “game-changer,” particularly in preventing land conflicts by providing timely information on property before transactions.
