A total of 262 smallholder farmers got N82.4 million yesterday, as part of the Feed the Future Nigeria Rural Resilience initiative, which is financed by USAID and aims to increase food sufficiency in the area and the nation as a whole.
Motherhen Farmers Akko Cooperative Society, Motherhen Farmers Kwami Cooperative Society, and Motherhen Farmers Yobe Cooperative Society were the three groups of farmers that accessed the fund.
At an event hosted by Sterling Bank and the Rural Resilience activity, which was carried out by Mercy Corps in partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC) and Save the Children International, the recipients got the disbursement.
Dr. Olushola Obikanye, Group Head, Agric Finance & Solid Minerals Group of Sterling Bank, spoke at the distribution and praised Mercy Corps for its belief in the bank’s ability to successfully lead the initiative, noting that the partnership will alleviate poverty in the locality.
However, Acting Country Director of Mercy Corps Nigeria, Mrs. Adesola Osuji, also highlighted the benefits of the alliance by stating that it will guarantee food security.
