Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, held a significant meeting with African ambassadors in Cairo, reinforcing Egypt’s commitment to deepening its relationships across the continent. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s high priority in fostering bilateral relations based on solidarity and cooperation, and underscored the country’s leading role in “confronting challenges facing the continent.”

The minister highlighted Egypt’s vision of linking peace, security, and development, citing Egypt’s leadership in post-conflict reconstruction efforts. “We are committed to defending the interests of the African continent and advocating for a unified African voice in international organizations,” Abdelatty stressed, pushing for reforms to make global financial systems more equitable for developing nations.

He also urged the upholding of the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration to rectify Africa’s lack of permanent representation in the UN Security Council, calling it a “historical injustice.”

In attendance was Khaled El-Anany, Egypt’s candidate for Director-General of UNESCO, whose vision for advancing the organization’s work received praise. African ambassadors were also encouraged to move their embassies to Egypt’s new administrative capital.

Abdelatty concluded by emphasizing Egypt’s push for greater economic cooperation through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, enhancing trade, and further deepening relations across political, cultural, and economic spheres.
