Russia’s President Vladimir Putin called for “technological sovereignty” on Friday, saying that Russia has been the target of a lot of cyberattacks since Moscow sent troops to Ukraine.
Putin told Russia’s Security Council that since Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine began in February, the number of cyberattacks, including complex ones, has increased many times over.
Putin said, “The attacks are coming from different countries, but it’s clear that they are being planned together.”
He said on TV that the attacks were aimed at Russia’s important information infrastructure, such as the media, financial institutions, and government portals.
Putin said that Russia needs to “dramatically reduce the risks” that come with using foreign software, computers, and telecommunications equipment.
“To strengthen our control over technology, the government needs to set up a modern Russian electronic component base as soon as possible,” he said.
