Today, the global population has reached eight billion, causing more people sharing the planet earth than ever before in the history of mankind.
According to the United Nations Population Division’s latest projections, this is due to the fact that we now have more older people living longer, with 10 percent aged over 65.
The population growth which is said to be at its slowest rate in 70 years due to a reduced birth rate, widespread contraception, an increase in the education of the female gender, and mobility, is projected to shoot to nine point five billion by the year 2050.
Meanwhile, based on the UN’s projections, the biggest contributing countries to the increase are Nigeria, Ethiopia, Philippines, India, China, Egypt, Pakistan, and Tanzania, expected to contribute about half of the projected increase anticipated through 2050.
Furthermore, the report specifically stated that 46 of the least-developed countries of the world will have the biggest population increase, due to their youth population structure.
