In the Ijebu-Ode region of Ogun State, the Nigeria Customs Service stopped two tankers carrying 80,055 liters of subpar automotive gas oil, also known as diesel.
While handing the goods over to the representatives of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency, Hussein Ejibunnu, Acting Customs Area Controller in charge of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, confirmed this.
Ejibunnu claimed that the truck drivers fled after seeing Customs agents on patrol.
It was found that the papers were fake and the fuel was of low quality after a detailed examination of the paperwork used to transfer the product and analysis of samples.
He claimed that although the NCS had written to NMDPRA to inquire about the products’ status and the validity of paperwork discovered in the vehicles, both had been determined to be forgeries.
The acting controller provided a breakdown of the seizures and specifics of the methods of transportation, noting that one of the tankers had the registration number DBT 599 XA and was loaded with 44,450 liters of AGO while the other, with the registration number USL 561 ZC, had 35,605 liters.
