Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya might serve three months in jail after pleading guilty to drunk driving charges in New Zealand.
The incident took place on August 19, three weeks before the Nigerian-born’s most recent UFC match.
A random breath testing unit stopped the 34-year-old while he was driving home from supper with friends in Auckland.
While the legal limit in New Zealand is 50 milligrammes, Adesanya was found to have 87 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system.
The maximum punishment for the fighter’s offence is three months in jail or a $2,680 fine, according to ESPN.
The Adesanya is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on January 10, 2024.
With a 24-3 record and 16 knockout wins, Adesanya is still recognised as one of the best MMA fighters of all time.
