Nigeria’s Super Eagles showcased strategic brilliance to clinch a 1-0 win against the host country, the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, during the ongoing AFCON 2023 tournament. The victory, marked by Troost-Ekong’s successful penalty conversion earned the Super Eagles three crucial points.

The turning point came in the 55th minute when Super Eagles’ captain, Troost-Ekong, calmly converted a penalty earned by Victor Osimhen, the African Player of the Year.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, awarded the Player of the Match for his instrumental role, expressed the team’s dissatisfaction with their prior game against Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking at the post-match news conference, Osimhen emphasized the team’s focus and determination against Ivory Coast, stating, “We needed this game to make a statement. We were focused from the start of the whistle to the end. We were really happy about this victory, and we will really keep on going from here.”

The Super Eagles’ victory highlighted their adaptability, addressing concerns from their previous match.
