The Evolving Women In Progress (EWIP) Lagos Chapter held its first annual general meeting yesterday 26th February 2024, in Ikeja, inaugurating new executives to steer the affairs of the organization. The newly elected executives include Jumoke Saliu as Coordinator, Odebode Sherifat Adebukola as General Secretary, Adebimpe Akinfolajimi as Program Director, Yinka Kenny as PRO, Clara Laja as Treasurer, Bushirat Shittu and Olabimpe Ogunyemi.
The meeting, chaired by the Lagos Chapter Coordinator, Jumoke Saliu, reflected on the organization’s growth since its inception four years ago, highlighting its expansion to all 36 states of Nigeria and several chapters in the diaspora, including the UK, US, UAE, and Canada.
Under the leadership of past coordinators Hajia Aisha Gbajabiamila, Hajia Raliat Anako Abdul Salam, and Chief Mrs. Olajumoke Saliu, the current coordinator of the Lagos Chapter, has conducted various impactful programs, including medical outreaches, educational support for school children, and advocacy for women’s rights. The newly inaugurated executives are set to continue and expand on these initiatives in 2024.
The General Secretary, Odebode Sherifat Adebukola in the acceptance speech on behalf of the newly elected Excos, expressed profound gratitude to members of the organisation for their trust and confidence in the new leadership to steer the affairs of EWIP to greater heights.
The group also promised the new leadership has lined up loads of interesting activities, “this tenure under the leadership of our indefatigable chief Olajumoke Saliu has come with loads of interesting, impacting, educating, and insightful activities that will be unfolding as time passes by, so I humbly appeal and solicit for our collective support to enable us to achieve our list of diverse programs slated for the year.”
The year 2024 is lined up with various activities, including sports day, trade fair, charity events, the Leading Women Conference, gala night, quarterly meetings, advocacy roadshows, and outreach programs, demonstrating EWIP’s commitment to empowering women and making a positive impact in society.
Evolving Women In Progress (EWIP) under the leadership of National President, Hajia Fatima and Matron, Folashade Tinubu, is a non-governmental organization focused on mitigating violence against women during elections and encouraging women’s participation in politics. However, it also serves as a social gathering catering to the needs of women across all ages, religions, and tribes. Since its inception about a year ago, EWIP has conducted medical outreaches for women and paid school fees for young girls, among other philanthropic gestures.
EWIP operates independently and is not affiliated with the government. While it has assisted some politicians in winning elections, its primary focus is on empowering women and encouraging their involvement in governance.
The organization’s impact areas include advocacy for women’s participation in governance, women empowerment, advocacy for women’s rights and against all forms of discrimination, career development opportunities for women, and humanitarian services.
