The anticipation for Glastonbury 2024 reached a fever pitch as the festival’s full lineup was unveiled, featuring a dazzling array of global music icons. Nigerian pop sensation Tems and Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti lead the roster of exciting new additions, promising to bring vibrant energy to this year’s event.
Joining them are a host of indie and alternative rock favorites, including James, Seasick Steve, Jamie Webster, the Staves, the Skatalites, Jalen Ngonda, the Vaccines, Johnny Flynn, Soft Play, Rachel Chinouriri, and the Zutons. The festival will officially kick off on Friday at noon with Squeeze taking the Pyramid Stage, while the Birmingham Royal Ballet will set a serene tone on Sunday with their performance of “Interlinked.”
Fans of smaller stages are in for a treat as well. Hollywood stars Russell Crowe and Idris Elba are slated to perform, adding a touch of celebrity glamour. The Acoustic Stage will see acts like Tanita Tikaram, Ocean Colour Scene, Judy Collins, and the Gypsy Kings, while the Avalon Stage hosts Kate Nash, Lulu, New Model Army, and Toyah Willcox with Robert Fripp.
The politically charged Left Field stage, curated by Billy Bragg, will feature Bob Vylan and English Teacher, alongside panel discussions on critical issues such as trans liberation, the Post Office scandal, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Dance music enthusiasts can head to the Levels area, where Charli XCX, Shygirl, Skream & Benga, Casisdead, Wilkinson, and Shy FX will keep the beats pumping.
A notable new addition is the Dragonfly installation at the Arcadia area, a transformation from its famous fire-breathing spider to a Royal Navy helicopter-themed exploration of renewal and technology. DJs in this innovative space include Eric Prydz, Andy C, Fatboy Slim, Amelie Lens, and Shygirl’s Club Shy, with Joy Anonymous performing back-to-back with Salute.
The Glade area will feature Goldie, Faithless, Camelphat, and Fatboy Slim, while the Iicon area promises late-night acts such as Bicep and Roni Size. Rinse FM celebrates its 30th anniversary on Friday at Temple with DJ EZ and Katy B, and Defected marks its 25th anniversary at Nowhere on the same night.
For metal fans, Glastonbury offers performances by Skindred and Indonesian trio Voice of Baceprot. Two new areas, the Wishing Well and Scissors, will replace the Rabbit Hole at the Park stage, featuring hyped indie band Fat Dog and dance-pop duo Confidence Man performing multiple sets throughout the weekend.
The headline acts for this year include Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA. Major supporting acts such as PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, and Shania Twain, who will perform in the Sunday teatime “legend” slot, are sure to draw massive crowds.
With such an eclectic mix of artists and genres, Glastonbury 2024 is poised to be an unforgettable experience for all attendees. For set times and stage locations, festival-goers can check the official Glastonbury website.
