Kenya Airways, one of Africa’s major airlines, achieved an operating profit in 2023, marking the first such occurrence since 2017.

Chairman Michael Joseph described the $80 million surplus as a significant achievement, according to reports from the AFP news agency.

The airline experienced a notable increase in revenue, attributed to a more than 50% rise in passenger numbers.

Despite previous financial challenges, including significant debts and the impact of the Covid pandemic, Kenya Airways, partially owned by the government, has shown resilience.

Michael Joseph emphasized the airline’s remarkable performance and expressed optimism for continued recovery in the aviation sector in a statement reported by AFP.
