According to the Nigerian Railway Corporation, standard gauge network electronic ticketing will be introduced the following week.
Managing Director of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria, made the statement on Wednesday in an interview.
According to Okhiria, the e-ticketing site would go live for a limited audience on Wednesday after completing its final testing phase, at which point it would be made public.
He stressed that by sending ticket sales proceeds straight to the government, the e-ticketing system would greatly lower the possibility of corruption and income leakage.
He said that additional important routes like Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri would be added to the e-ticketing rollout after it originally covered the Abuja-Kaduna route.
