Rio Ferdinand Insists Man Utd Need Osimhen to Become Title Contenders

Rio Ferdinand, a former centre back for Manchester United, claims that the club can only compete for the title if they buy either Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window.

In Tuesday night’s 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt for Napoli, Nigerian attacker Osimhen increased his season goal total to 20.

Ferdinand stated that he would choose Osimhen above Kane, who is 29 years old and close to retiring, given that the Nigerian is making such a significant impression on Europe at the young age of 24.

Speaking with BT Sport yesterday, Ferdinand said, “I think if I was talking about investing and looking after my money, I’d probably go for Osimhen. There’s resale value with his age at 24 years old. It’s gonna be a huge outlay.”

The Reds veteran did, however, acknowledge that he would be content with either of the main men moving to Old Trafford, saying that they can turn Ten Hag’s team into a title contender.

Yesterday, Osimhen was included in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Week as well as the Team of the Round of 16 first-leg.

The football information and statistics website Whoscored.com yesterday included the hot Osimhen in the two lists and duly declared it on its social media accounts.

He increased his season total to 20 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A front-runners.

The Real Madrid quintet of Karim Benzema, Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior, and Luka Modric as well as Osimhen and three of his Napoli colleagues all made the Team of the Week.

Osimhen was a member of the Round of 16 first-leg team along with three other Napoli teammates and the same Madrid players.

The only English team remaining engaged in four simultaneous competitions is Manchester United, who have been impressive in recent months.

The Reds will play Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday afternoon. They are currently third in the Premier League standings.

While Marcus Rashford has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 24 goals and dishing out nine assists in 36 games, United’s other attackers have had trouble finding the back of the net.

Only six goals have been scored by French forward Anthony Martial, while only one goal has been scored by attacking loanee Wout Weghorst.
